Last week saw the first Hashtag Radio #RadioMeetUp take place at the Protea Hotel, Fire and Ice, in Cape Town, an event which would not have been possible without some great sponsors, one of which was Aurelia MCC. Now you all know that I do love my MCC, and now I have a new favourite too. As do our guests who got to sip on and enjoy these delicate bubbles…
The Aurelia MCC is made by the talented hand of Lukas Wentzel, winemaker of the well known Groote Post range of wines. The 2008 Cap Classique was the first release of the Aurelia label. It is named after his Matriarch, Aurelia Stafforinus, who married Carl David Wentzel in 1751. He was the first Wentzel in the Cape, hailing from Germany and was stationed in the Cape as Engineering officer for the VOC (Dutch East India Company).
Aurelia displays notes of honey and apricot on the nose and finishes off full bodied with a well balanced yeasty biscuit flavour on the palate, just the way I love my bubbly. Now whilst many still think the only bubbles to enjoy is French Champagne, I have to strongly disagree. Aurelia once again proves that we here in SA produce world class MCC vintages, which for me is sometimes even better.
If you haven’t tried it you really do have to. And trust me on this, it really is a goodie.
Happy sipping!
