After fighting lymphatic cancer and surviving the battle, James began a food journey in search of abundant energy…
The Khoi-San Buchu Man was on a mission to share his ancient wisdom, and the two magically crossed paths. They became taste-buddy’s and set out on a quest to grow power live pro-biotics, provide proudly African energy, and offer longevity through their indigenously detoxing buchu water.
And so after a journey of discovery and wonder Sexy Food was born.
Just a few days into opening and already Sexy Food is packed with people vying for a seat at this new Cape Town eatery, and with good reason too.
I enjoyed three meals in just two days and I can’t seem to get enough. Yes, it does have something to do with the fact that I am on a health trip, and that the office is a mere one road away, but in saying that I’d travel to get there, regardless.
Let’s talk interior and look and feel – long carved wooden tables provide shared seating, with small wine barrels as seats and cacti make for the table decor. There are wall papered walls, depicting scenes of nature which brings the outside in.
Everything is real and it feels authentic, because it is. There really is a great balance between what Sexy Food stands for, what it serves as far as food goes, and it’s aesthetic. The kitchen is quite the machine, with a rather large team that ensures that all of the fermentation processes, the prepping, and cooking is done to standard and served efficiently, and almost all of this in view of guests.
Says James – “It’s evolutionary eating, taking us back to our original sexy”
Talking food, it’s all natural, all good for you, and perfectly constructed to ensure that every bite excites the palate…and in just the way nature intended.
The menu covers both breakfast and lunch items, but there will also be special dinner evenings which will be themed. For now these are some of the delicious dishes that you can expect to find on the menu.
Dragon Egg: Poached egg with miso toast, marinated mushroom, greens sprouts and coriander (it seems to me as if this is their signature dish, so if struggling with the decision as what to start with, I’d say start here)
Garden Falafel: Tumeric kraut, coriander, mint, hummus
Karoo Venisunshine: Bushveld kudu, beet kraut, spiced date, tamarind
Wild Lambzles: Persian lamb, tumeric kraut, tzatziki, sesame, mint
If you fancy a dessert, you won’t quite find it under that name, but rather under that of ‘Lust’ – offering either pure 100% chocolate indulgence, conscious cake or a pear and polenta slice. Also not to be forgotten are the sprout or date-amaze-balls.
When it comes to drinks you’ll find a variety on tap. Crystal filtered water, Buchu light and strong, Kombuchu classic, iced yerba mate tea (my favourite), raw Kefir milk plus more. Alternatively order freshly squeezed juices or opt for a smoothie.
If grabbing a bite onsite is not enough, a range of products are prepared for you to take home. So stock up on Kombuchu honey jam, Kefir milk or yoghurt, kimchi, sprouts and more, so that your Sexy Food experience can continue…
Thank you to James and the team for bringing sexy back!
