Doran Vineyards set out to make the perfect blend of the top Irish and South African inspired trends. This is indeed a rare blend.
Doran Vineyards is the product of the venture of two prominent males, Edwin Doran, who is an Irish businessman with a passion for South Africa and its world-class wines — and André Badenhorst, who is a South African viticulturist, dedicating his life to growing the finest grapes in the most fertile regions of the country.
André played a key role in the success of the prominent mild climate Constantia vineyards such as, Buitenverwachting and Constantia Uitsig. When his son, Adi Badenhorst who is a prominent winemaker relocated to the developing lands of Swartland, it assured André that the vineyards in South Africa is able to withstand hot climates, which contributes to the quality of the wine produced in this country.
The two, André Badenhorst and Edwin Doran were unified by their equal passion for South Africa and their vision of having their own winery is what made them embark on this journey that led them to a distinctive farm in Voor-Paardeberg. Edwin went on to trading with his matured stock of Bordeaux wines. He adds, “I sold 84 bottles of Château Lafite so I could buy 21 stainless steel tanks instead!”
They then set out to track down an excellent winemaker who is keen on producing innovative wines. They managed to track down Martin Lamprecht, who had just returned from Rhône Valley in France. Martin has a passion for flavourful wines. They then allowed him to use the fruit as he sees fit and the results have been little less than extraordinary
The wines
Arya is a white blend wine of 2015. It comprises of Chenin Blanc, Roussanne and Grenache Blanc. It is a rare blend that cannot be found anywhere else in the world.
Incipio is the next, a rare blend of Syrah with Chenin Blanc. This blend was primarily inspired by Martin’s time spent in France, which he then crafted into a distinctive South African wine. It encompasses a symphony of black fruit, spice, floral perfume and ripe, juicy tannins.
These two wines formulated the rich story of Doran Vineyards. It required a blend of two men with one mission and two exceptional wine blends. Doran Vineyards can be described as: dreamers of dreams and makers of magical wines, which sing to your very soul.
