It is that time of the year, February rolled around quicker than I ever remember it doing so, which means that Cupid is hiding behind a corner ready to shoot off arrows of love…or something like that. Now whilst Valentines day is either something you love or loathe the fact remains that it is an occasion that only few do not participate in. Shop shelves are adorned in heart shaped chocolates, florists are getting ready to sell red roses at hugely inflated prices, and your loved one has probably hinted as to what their heart desires come February 14th. So in the spirit of all things love and if you haven’t yet decided as what to do on the day, perhaps this will help.
If escaping the city is your thing, Spier wine estate in Stellenbosch is offering an accommodation special for the evening, but what appeals most here is the offering of a movie and picnic night under the stars. The classic, Eternal Sunshine of the spotless mind kicks off at 7pm, so sit back, relax, enjoy a delicious picnic and sip on some of the estates MCC or wine. For more info contact reservations@spier.co.za
If laughing is your thing, and I hope it is, head down to Jou Ma se Comedy Club at the iconic Pumphouse at the V&A. The brain child of local comedian and Cape Town favourite Kurt Schoonraad, Jou Ma se Comedy Club always delights, and Feb 14th will be no different. Stuart Taylor will play host emcee on the evening and other names on the line-up are Andrew Magic man, Phil de Lange and Westley Cockrell. They say being able to laugh at each is the cornerstone of every great relationship, but I say so is good food and wine and this too can be had so book early to avoid disappointment at Computicket.
If family loving is your thing this V day why not be whisked off with rail tourism to the Stellenbosch wine route. Weltevreden wine estate has put together a day of activities for the whole family. There will be wine tasting along the way and a savoury or sweet lunch option is available, with pizza for the kids. There will also be a carnival as well as arts and crafts.
