CHEF GARTH ALMAZAN TO OPEN A NEW RESTAURANT IN PATERNOSTER THIS SUMMER

Chef Garth Almazan is on the verge of opening a new restaurant. The restaurant will be located in Paternoster on a beach in the North Eastern section of the village. The restaurant is a partnership venture between Simone Jacke and Deon Brand. They are hospitality professionals and property developers in the area — and also the owners of Strandloper Ocean Boutique Hotel, which is an award-winning 5-star restaurant.

The restaurant provides for 60 seating guests and offer sophisticated and modern West Coast cuisine. The elegance of the restaurant is mirrored in both, the interior, as well as in the fine menu.  The greater percentage of the restaurant’s surroundings consists of views of fynbos and ocean. The restaurant has a designated bar area, a lounge and dining areas indoors. Outside, there’ll be a courtyard and seating on lavish wooden decks that overlook the beach.

Chef Almazan says that this brand new restaurant is ‘a dream come true’ for him. He is extremely excited for the opportunity to be running his own restaurant after serving as an Executive Chef for 18 years in Catharina’s, a fine dining venue in Constantia. What many people might not know about Chef Almazan is that he is a born Capetonian. Garth Stroebel trained him for approximately three years at the Belmond Mount Nelson before his two years as Head Chef at Shamwari. Thereafter, he went on to working at Steenberg in Constantia, where he received multiple awards.

Chef Almazan will be exploring farms on the West Coast over the following few months as the build-up to the opening of his restaurant intensifies. He describes this period as his ‘creative break’. His aim is to build a relationship with local farmers, fishermen and other potential suppliers that will contribute to the development of his restaurant concept. Chef Almazan hopes that his restaurant will further complement Paternoster’s developing ‘foodie’ scene.
