With so many restaurants in Cape Town one might wonder if another new one is really necessary. Well I can tell you that this one absolutely is and I simply cannot wait.
Remember the spot Jekyll and Hyde on trendy Kloof street? Well that is no more and soon to be its place the new ‘The Deckhouse’ restaurant. On twitter they go by the title (at) CrabshackNbbq, now that title alone should give you some idea as to what they’ll be all about. It is an American concept, beach styled restaurant where patrons will be able to come and enjoy, as the name suggests, crab (and other seafood) and bbq.
The interior will be understated and the overall aesthetic appeal will perfectly suit the fare they’ll be dishing up. The ambience is laid back and the big outside deck will be open so that the incredible views of Table Mountain can be fully enjoyed whilst you sit back, eat and sip on endless jugs of signature cocktails or craft beers. The custom made inside couches (which are converted boats) will be reminiscent of being on the beach eating the product of the sea with your hands, where it’s all about the food and not about whether you get your hands dirty. You will however be giving a big bib when you arrive so that you yourself don’t get dirty.
When it comes to the menu there will naturally be crab on offer (Have I said that I cannot wait?) this will be sourced from various suppliers to ensure the best quality and value for money and will range from Snow crab to King to Blue. Also on offer will be things like crab cakes, crab and shrimp nachos, crayfish tails, crabby mussel pots, shrimp popcorn etc. the list goes on. When it comes to the bbq side of things expect to find various ribs on the menu and you’ll also be able to order a bucket of bourbon marinated chicken wings. Can I get a yes please! In true American style there will also be corn dogs on offer and breakfast items such as American pancakes, Eggs Benedict on corn bread and cinnamon buns will be the order of the day. This is not the full extent of what they’ll be dishing up but you’ll have to go and try it yourself to see what else will make its way onto the menu, and besides I’m getting so hungry just writing this that I simply have to stop. Before I do however sign off you must know that there will be a great selection of good value for money local wines, and if you do feel like splashing out you will be able to grab French bubbly if celebrating a special occasion. Craft beer will be on offer as well as some regular old favourites and cider on tap.
There you have it, one of the most exciting spots to soon open its doors and right here on our doorstep. Soft opening will take place on the 7th of August 2015, but they are already fully booked so if I’ve tempted you at all, and I’m pretty sure I have, get booking! #ExcitedMuch
